The Things I've Done So Far...
International and Area Studies Library Website
I worked with librarians Mara Thacker and Lynne Rudasill to perform user testing including a card sort activity, focus groups, and usability testing, to redesign the website for the International and Area Studies Library at UIUC. I was responsible for creating all of the test pages as well as the final website based on our user studies. We presented a poster on the project at the 2014 Library Research Showcase at UIUC.
Global Currents Blog
I created the newest incarnation of the Global Currents blog for Global Studies Collections and Services at UIUC. I researched and wrote relevant and thought-provoking posts that highlighted issues in Global Studies. Each blog post contains a selected bibliography of sources to allow Global Studies students to continue research on the subject. Analytics show that Global Currents draws nearly 700 readers per month, from 76 countries.
International Health and Safety
I compiled this massive guide for students studying abroad, which covers topics such as Cultural Awareness, Health Care While Abroad, and Emergency Information. This guide is now listed on the Illinois Study Abroad website under Health & Safety information.
Global Health Research Guide
I created this research guide for global health resources for my Reference and Instruction class. I wanted to do something different than the usual LibGuide format, so I created this page using HTML, CSS, and Javascript to make interactive tabs. It's intended audience is undergraduate or high school students who are beginning a project on global health.
Categorizing Historic Newspaper Ads - A Crowdsourcing Project (Link Coming Soon!)
This project is the culmination of my last semester's work as a graduate assistant for Library IT and the Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections. Along with students from computer science, we are using Backbone.js and Elastic (a NoSQL database and search engine) to create an interactive web application that allows users to categorize the advertisements from the IDNC newspaper database. Currently in development, this project will go live by my graduation in May.
